My son and I are just back from Italy, and I want to share a few things that have inspired me. It was awe-inspiring to be near so many gifts from Mother Nature in one place. The spontaneous growth of herbs and fruits is impressive, and having these fresh ingredients on hand makes a huge difference in food quality. As a side note, seeing the marble mountain on our ride to Tuscany was amazing.
On the quality of food that we eat, my son, who has IBD and indulged in ways he would never back here in the US, didn't have an iota of GI issues in Italy. His IBD journey has been an arduous one. We use enzymes and food-combining strategies on a regular, and thankfully, he is doing well. He believes if he lived there, he would, without doubt, heal.
I also noticed tremendous benefits from the simple and fresh ingredients. Even though I indulged in processed food such as bread and pastries, I was not bloated, nor did I have any intestinal disturbances, as I typically would from cheese and bread. I particularly appreciated the very simple ingredients in the bread in Florence. I must find a good recipe for pappa al Pomodoro.
And the bottled water in Italy is all mineral water, flat or sparkling—it's just the same. You gotta love that. This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the power of natural food in healing and nourishing our bodies.
The takeaway, which aligns with the Cleanse, is to simplify meal ingredients and grow what you can to include in your meals. Everyone can grow herbs. Also, include more mineral water, especially when you are out and have to get a bottle of water. If you are interested in the Cleanse, I can provide more details. It begins next week.
